Fall is here and Halloween is quickly approaching! We love this season and the holiday. Some of the Motion Source crew shared a few of their favorite costumes from over the years. No tricks, all treats here - enjoy!
Steve: Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots
Every year since 2008, my family has thrown a themed Halloween party. The first year’s theme was "couples" and I should say that the themes are usually very loosely enforced. More of a guideline than anything. For that year, my younger brother, David, and I decided to pair up. He was away at college in New York at the time and would not have the time to create a costume, so he left the endeavor up to me. Wanting to start the tradition off on a strong footing, I chose Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots. The costumes were not only complex to construct, they were not designed with mobility in mind. The costumes were entirely constructed out of cardboard boxes and some string to "hold them together". We were unable to move about the party in the costumes and wore them very briefly; however, we did win the award for "Most Creative Costume". While you can't tell from the photo, my brother, David, played the role of the Red Rocker and I played the role of the Blue Bomber.
Sal: A Bunch of Grapes
I usually like to keep my Halloween costumes original, but freshman year of college I decided to buy one from the store. It ended up being a big hit and one of my all-time favorites.
It turned out to be two costumes in one because after turning the battery-powered fan that inflated the costume off, the grapes became raisins.
Michelle: Esmeralda
I love Halloween and dressing up, especially creating my own costumes through thrift store finds and amateur crafting. I tend to draw inspiration from film and television characters. Over the years, I have been Wonder Woman, Mary Sanderson from Hocus Pocus, and Frankie Bergstein from Netflix’s Grace and Frankie, to name a few. Last year, I dug into my childhood (90’s Disney movies) and transformed into Esmeralda from The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The tambourine was a big hit at the party!
David: Dr. Alan Grant (and Dr. Ellie Sattler from Jurassic Park)
The Fall season, and more specifically, Halloween, is one of my favorite times of the year. I really enjoy the weather shifting, the colors transitioning, and the smell of fireplaces in the wind. And no holiday is as fun as Halloween; from the traditions and stories, to the fun gothic decor, and especially the costuming (simple or elaborate). I don't dress up every year, but when I do - I try to go all out.
