Have you ever heard the terms “No Shave November” or “Movember” before? Their popularity has increased rapidly over the years- and for good reason! These annual campaigns take place over the month of November to raise awareness of (and funds for) men’s health issues such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men’s suicide...all through the power of a moustache! This November, Motion Source is joining the movement by putting down the razors and standing up for men’s health.
In an office full of men, facial hair is in no short supply! Most are sporting some type of beard or scruff, but rarely do we see the lone moustache. Movember is here to change that! We have started a team, aptly named “The Men of Motion Source” through the Movember Foundation whose goal is to “change the face of men’s health.”
The Movember Foundation, founded in Australia, has become a global charity. The US event, officially launched in 2007, now partners with the Prostate Cancer Foundation, the Livestrong Foundation, and the Prevention Institute. Funds raised through the Movember US campaign go towards men’s health programs supporting prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention. These programs are funded either directly by the Movember Foundation or through the health partners.
The rules are simple: Each Mo Bro (what the male participants are called) must start clean-shaven on November 1st, and for the entire month, grow out and maintain a moustache. Mo Sistas (the female participants) can recruit a team to raise money, make a personal donation, and show overall support to Mo Bros in their challenge.
We get that on the surface, it seems a little silly; it’s just a moustache, after all. But we are tackling some serious issues in this not-so-serious way. The hope is that we can inspire donations, conversations, and real change.
“From humble beginnings in Australia in 2003, the Movember movement has grown to be a truly global one, inspiring support from over 5 million Mo Bros and Mo Sistas around the world.
Movember's success can largely be attributed to the strength of the global community. Regardless of the city in which we live, we're part of something bigger, united by a commitment to help change the face of men’s health.”
