Another #WeekOfWinners in the books! Over the last four days, we have revealed our four Vega Digital Award-winning videos. Now, to round out the week, we want to give you some background information on this year’s competition, introduce you to the key players behind these projects, and share with you their insight and reaction to winning these awards.
The Vega Digital Awards is an international competition catered to all creative professionals who inspire through concept, writing or design through traditional or electronic media. “We wish to recognize the singular achievements of small and medium-sized web design and advertising companies, and the creative professionals who are the driving force behind global digital communications industry,” said Kenjo Ong, President for the International Awards Associates (IAA). “We hope to find, encourage and reward the newest and brightest stars emerging in the world of digital communications.”
This year's Vega Awards competition included over 1,500 entries from 32 countries, and a Jury Panel of 37 renowned and experienced Judges from 16 countries worldwide. “Winning a Vega Award is a career milestone for recipients,” Ong said. “Only the best entries received recognition. We congratulate this year’s winners, and wish them great success.”
We are incredibly proud and honored to add these videos to our collection of award-winning work.
ALS: Hope Through Caring 2017
Motion Source has had the privilege of working with the Les Turner ALS Foundation for the past few years on several different video campaigns. While the subject of ALS can often be a difficult and sad topic, Les Turner’s message of “Hope through Caring” has helped to serve as an inspiration for our team, and, in turn allowed us to create some of our most rewarding work. As filmmakers, our ultimate goal is to tell people's stories, and it means everything for us to be able to tell a story that can help impact the lives of others. For this project, Motion Source was invited into the Rooney family's home to help tell the story of John Rooney's battle with ALS and the hardships his family faced in dealing with the disease. The Rooney's are big baseball fans, and being from the south side of Chicago, the White Sox have played a large role in their family dynamic. This gave us a unique angle to approach this video from a storytelling perspective. We were granted full access to film the family at the White Sox stadium. Being able to tie the Rooney's personal journey together with something that means so much to them, helped elevate the story beyond the scope of our normal work. I am personally very proud of the production quality of this video. From the inception of the idea, through the planning and scheduling, and the many hours put into sculpting the story, I think our team was able to craft an inspirational video that serves to honor the strength of the Rooney family.

Walgreens: Photo Displays
The Walgreens Photo Displays video is one of my favorite projects to have worked on. It's definitely my favorite in the Walgreens Photo series that Motion Source produced. The pre-production, design, and production made it easy on me as an editor to piece it together, with very little problem solving on my end. The finished product not only showcases a variety of display options, but the overall look is clean, commercial, and bright. Working with Walgreens in post was also beyond a pleasant experience. Plus, kudos to everyone who had a hand in this project because this is the second time the Walgreens Photo Displays video has placed in an awards competition.

My Green Mattress
I am extremely proud of the work that our team did on the My Green Mattress commercial! The goal was to craft a video that brought across the true care that goes into each and every mattress, as well as the diverse role that a mattress plays in our lives--something we rarely consider. As the mattresses themselves are hand-crafted, we aimed for the video to have a similar feel. This was achieved with careful lighting choices implemented by our wonderful gaffer and key grip, Allen Lee and Jeff Bruninga respectively; as well as the evocative camera work of both Brian Ernst and Samuel Ott. It was due to these individuals, and the rest of our dedicated team, that we were capable of creating what I consider to be a paradigm of commercial lifestyle videos.

Motion Source: About Us
The editing team was tasked with pitching some ideas for a new marketing video we could use to show why we’re different from the “other guys”. Over the next few weeks, a backwards approach allowed me to write and edit a proof of concept simultaneously by pulling together stock footage and recording a scratch voice over track. This approach helped find the golden nugget that explains what makes the Motion Source Team work; we all bring something unique to the table. By having musicians, writers, class clowns, and storytellers be your videography team, you’re getting much more than the average. You’re getting a team that’s invested in telling your story.

Congratulations once more to these clients and to the entire Motion Source team, and our gratitude to the Vega Digital Awards for the honors bestowed on us. We look forward to entering future competitions!
